Nov. 1st, 2007 07:53 am Pages for Clay Book

Wow, time is just flying by! I cut the pages for my clay book from a roll of brown paper.
Thought because of the width of the paper, that folding them and assembling would be easier than gluing a kazillion small pieces together.

First I cut the paper into long strips the height of the pages.

I cut a template for folding the pages all the same width. My book cover is 5" wide, so I made the folds at 4 1/2".

When I got to the ends they were odd.

One end got trimmed at the fold, and one end was trimmed 1" past the fold.
I did that for all the page groups except the last one gets 1" folds on both ends.

The picture above shows how they're aligned for gluing. The 1" strip gets the glue, and goes behind the full sheet.

All the seams are on the back of the book so you never see them when the book is opened.

All the pages glued together and held with clothespin.
Not shown in picture, but next I pressed the pages in the edge of a thick encyclopedia, and ran tacky glue across the top edge.
Then I attached a strip of brown paper to the glue. Hopefully that will be strong enough to make a good bond and strong book.

Sep. 28th, 2007 10:07 am Clay book

Started my clay books. Decided I'd use paper clay and a nice hard stencil I cut from some Dover clip art.

Rolled out the clay to a little less than 1/4", and pressed the stencil down on top.

After I removed the stencil, I pushed in some areas with a paintbrush handle, and then a ball stylus for more detail.

Here's another closeup before I added detail.

Here's the finished book front cover drying.

It's a little warped up in the middle now that it's almost dry. I've got it under a stack of encyclopedias.
Also cut out the back and spine. Dry! Dry! dry!!

Apr. 26th, 2007 10:21 am Never Too Pink

Here's my new group of atc cards. I'm new to this. Never swapped cards before, but I'd like to.
These are laser printed cardstock. I didn't embellish this group with paint or rubber stamps.
They make a simple statement. Wish I knew what that statement is!!
I will only be printing 1 of each of these as they stand now.
I will keep the file so I can screw them up in a different configuration later.
